Indian Air Force crew bring 37 tonnes of oxygen from UK to southern India
The Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel completed a 35-hour cycle to and from the United Kingdom to bring oxygen cylinders in southern India's Tamil Nadu on May 4. The incident took place in Chennai.
A video features the staff unloading the oxygen cylinders from the aircraft onto a wagon in broad daylight. Following this, the life-saving gas will get transported to the hospital to treat the ailing patients.
IAF personnel completed a 35-hour cycle to and from the United Kingdom to bring the oxygen cylinders amid the COVID-19 crisis that is overburdening the healthcare system. Two C-17 Globemasters of the IAF flew out consecutively within a two-hour window from the Jamnagar airbase on May 2nd heading towards Brize Norton in the UK.
The two aircraft flew nonstop for 11 hours and 30 minutes to reach the UK and airlifted the life support equipment. The only stoppage apart from the destination was in Egypt's Cairo for refueling. Furthermore, around 900 cylinders were brought in from the UK.
