Border clashes started last Wednesday between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan over control of the local water distribution network, according to Kyrgyz media.
Clashes broke out with the intervention of border troops from the two countries, and soldiers were sent to the region with armored vehicles from both sides.
Tensions on control of the water supply continued until last Thursday with residents throwing stones at each other.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic,129 houses and 84 objects were destroyed: 1 school, 1 FAP, 1 kindergarten, 1 medical center, 1 dentist office, 2 pharmacies, 1 library, 27 gas stations, 34 shops, 5 canteens, 3 restaurants, as well as 6 public buildings. Currently, a special commission of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is working to establish material damage.
In total, 40 649 people were evacuated in Batken region.

"There were high hopes to live here, but first of all they would solve the border [meaning the problem of the border]. Where do we go now? 15 years of life have passed, the tree has been planted".

"They need to be distracted. Thinking must be changed for the better. We warm up, put on music and teach how to dance, take people out to the park to play. We play Kyrgyz national games, for example, tug of war. Now the mood of the children is much better than on the first day. They are smiling".
