Misery continues for north London motorists as Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes (LTNs) and emergency roadworks bring Islington to a standstill (May 6th).

The measures which were introduced last year in order to reduce pollution in neighbourhoods and make streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians has come under fire from local residents, some who are disabled at a protest on May 1st who said journey times have doubled, if not tripled since the LTNs were implemented and is turning some streets into ghost towns.
Taxi drivers, tradespeople and delivery drivers have been badly affected.

Three London mayoral candidates criticised the scheme as fines generated by local authorities for motoring breaches has run into millions of pounds and has in fact increased pollution through idling traffic and has divided communities.

The Islington Gazette reported that between August and December 2020 Islington Council made £491,180 from LTN related fines
