Police in Sri Lanka's Northern Province are resorting to drastic measures to ensure compliance with coronavirus safety rules.

In an operation in Jaffna on 6 May, officers in masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) physically carried people spotted not wearing masks, to a bus that would take them to two weeks of quarantine.

Sri Lanka is enduring a third wave of Covid-19 and the authorities have decided that only strict measures will sufficiently combat the rise in infections.

The authorities in Sri Lanka's Northern Province carried the face-mask violators to a bus to get them quarantined on May 6. The incident took place in Jaffna.

A video features the officials wearing their personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and running inspections on the street. They spot a man not wearing his face mask and approach him. Following this, they grab him and carry him to a bus and confine him inside.

The authorities performed the drill over and over again for several face-mask violators. They put them inside a bus and took them for quarantine for 14 days for the violation, given the surge in the COVID-19 cases in the country.

Sri Lanka is amid the third wave of the unprecedented Coronavirus crisis. In the light of that, the authorities are arresting and quarantining the pandemic norm violators to prevent the spread of the virus.
