Activists in Minneapolis Demand Mayor Jacob Frey Put an End to Evictions, Paint "No Evictions" on Street

On Saturday, May 8 a coalition of activists joined together on Hennepin Avenue in front of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey's home for a rally and action. While speakers demanded Mayor Frey stop supporting the forces of gentrification and displacement including landlord, real estate, and corporate interests, activists painted "No Evictions" and other messages on the street in front of his home.

During the past year and in the midst of a pandemic, local police forces displaced, removed, and arrested the unhoused across Minneapolis. Multiple unhoused community members spoke at the rally as the street was being painted. In light of the MN Senate recently advancing a bill to end the Eviction Moratorium, the group is taking to the streets and making their voices heard in an effort to keep themselves and their neighbors safe and housed.

The organizations demand that Mayor Frey support the following:
- Protecting Public Housing from Privatization
- Tenant Opportunity to Purchase (TOPA)
- Rent Control
- Just Cause Eviction Protection
- Pre-Eviction Notification / Right to Cure
