Dust devil tornado whips through quarry in the Philippines
Footage shows a large dust devil tornado whipping through a quarry in the Philippines in front of shocked workers.
Miner Lanlan Muli recorded the whirlwind as it picked up piles of dust and sand at the mining site in Pampanga, the Philippines, on May 7.
He said: ‘The wind was really strong before I started recording and it lasted about five minutes.’
Dust devils are a type of whirlwind tornado that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.
Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up, rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris making the spiral visible as it rises skywards.
