Elephants die due to lightning in northeastern India

A lightning strike supposedly killed a herd of elephants in northeastern India's Assam.The incident taking place in Barhampur in Nagaon district.

Visuals shot on May 13 feature the carcass of several elephants lying amid the woods in broad daylight. Following this, the officials reach the spot to examine the situation and recover the remains of the wild jumbos from the region.

The thunder stroke has allegedly claimed the lives of at least 18 to 20 elephants in the hilly Kandali Proposed Reserve Forest of the Kathiatoli Range on Wednesday night. Moreover, till now the Nagaon Forest officials have recovered the carcass of four wild elephants from the region. A team of veterinary doctors and other wildlife experts have left for Kandali and are expected to reach the spot by Friday morning to examine if there are any other reasons behind the death of the jumbos.
