US scientist puts lichen, onions and 'almost indestructible' water bears under the microscope
A scientist in the US showed off the amazing hidden side of various fungi, plants and other lifeforms when viewed under a microscope.
In this cool footage, Adolfo Sanchez-Blanco from Hartford, Connecticut, views lichen through a microscope and highlights the fungi and algae coexisting.
He explained: "Lichens are symbiotic organisms composed of fungi and algae. In this video, I dissect a lichen to see the algae and the fungi living together under the microscope."
He added: "On one hand, the fungus gets its food from the photosynthetic alga. On the other, the alga depends on the fungus for water and minerals. So, they both benefit by coexisting."
Other insights include water bears and even a close look at a slice of onion.
This educational clip was filmed on March 21, 2021.
