Severe thunderstorm dazzles Yorkshire with spectacular lightning display

Late on Tuesday 11th May 2021, a large storm passed over Leeds, Yorkshire and surrounding areas featuring spectacular lightning strikes. The storm appeared on radar to be a mesoscale convective system (MCS) of the leading line trailing stratiform (LLTS) variety. These LLTS MCS's are more rare and feature heavy, gusty precipitation on the leading edge followed by a calm region and then moderate rain for an extended period of time.
