EXCLUSIVE: Viral 10-year-old Gaza girl describes life among rubble
She's gone viral for the pain articulated so strongly in her young voice, but Nadine Abdel-Taif just wants the death and destruction around her Gaza home to stop.
The heartbreaking video, filmed shortly after an Israeli airstrike, showed the 10-year-old Palestinian girl expressing her despair for the future amid the rubble of her refugee camp neighbourhood to the west of Gaza city.
"I can’t do anything. I am only 10,” she says in the viral clip.
“What am I supposed to do? Fix it? I’m only 10. I can’t even deal with this anymore,” says the young Gaza resident, tearing up.
On Monday (May 17) a Newsflare member went to meet Nadine and she and her family agreed to an exclusive interview.
Nadine has watched the now-viral clip but she's not dwelling on her fame, she still just wants the violence to stop.
"My mom hears missiles at night and puts on a mattress in the hallway, to keep us safe. They don't deserve it, they don't deserve to sleep scared," she says.
When asked what she wants, Nadine replies: "to end this war, to end this war that we don’t deserve to live. Stop giving weapons to occupiers. Every day I see a kid die just because they use those weapons for bad. Stop selling them weapons."
