Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases, the locals refused to perform the last rites of a widowed woman due to social distancing in central India's Madhya Pradesh on May 17. The incident took place in Shahgarh in Sagar District.

A video features a couple of men carrying the corpse of the deceased woman and placing it inside a hearse in broad daylight. A couple of people help in performing the last rites of the woman while no one else appears on the road fearing the Covid infection.

A 45-year-old woman, identified as Mallobai Adivasi, who used to reside in Shahgarh's city council region in ward number-1 succumbed to her illness on Sunday afternoon. Moreover, it was discovered that the woman was suffering from a high fever due to Malaria and tested negative for coronavirus. However, after her death, her children, including a married and a minor daughter, faced trouble as no one was willing to come forward in the society to perform her last rites.

Following this, her daughter, along with her husband reached the spot and informed the City Council to provide a hearse to reach the crematorium and cremate her body. Furthermore, a couple of locals volunteered to help them in conducting the rituals during the funeral procession.
