Scary dust devil forms in car park in Taiwan
This is the scary moment a dust devil formed on a street in Taiwan.
Footage shows how the whirlwind suddenly appeared on a hot day in Kaohsiung city on May 7. It then spun through the car park before dissipating.
Onlooker Su Suze said: ‘It lasted for only about 30 seconds but it was quite scary because I was so close to it.’
Dust devils are a type of whirlwind tornado that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly. Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air.
The new drafts of cooler air also heat up, rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris making the spiral visible.
