Often mistaken for police helicopters by local residents the blue and yellow Leonardo AW139 and Bell 412 aircraft are seen constantly circling the picturesque Cornish village of St Mawgan and the airport. Such aircraft fitted with guns and infra red sensors are employed by the Nigerian Air Force. Multiple villages in Konshisha district were attacked by military helicopter on April 8th 2021 killing civilians, leveling market places and leaving Catholic primary school in ruins. Cobham air academy, since 21st September 2020 belongs to Draken ltd part of the US contractorized air training services provider. The UK govt told Declassified UK "it does not maintain a record of alleged violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) committed by Nigerian Armed forces engaged in combat operations against Boko Harum". Training of this nature in the UK does not currently require a military export license thus the Govt does not regulate such activity. The company says it is “fully sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD)”, but the department told Declassified it had no knowledge that any Nigerian helicopter pilots have or are training in the UK. Draken provide extensive support to UK armed forces in addition to the US military and foreign governments.
