Dust devil tornado whips through field in the Philippines
Footage shows a large dust devil tornado whipping through a field in the Philippines.
Resident Zenaida Calubaquib captured the twister passing by her home while she worked on her land in Tuguegarao City on May 17.
She said: ‘I was watering my vegetables on the farm and suddenly a whirlwind formed. We were worried that our crops and livelihood might be ruined.’
Dust devils are a type of whirlwind tornado that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly. Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up, rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris making the spiral visible as it rises skywards.
