A shopping mall in Thailand uses a contactless elevator to reduce Covid-19 risk in Thailand.

The Central Westgate centre in Bangkok centre has changed the buttons for sensors that shoppers hover their hands over to choose which floor they want to go to.

Footage shows how a customer can use the lift to travel to different floors in the building without touching any surfaces, which is believed to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus infections.

Bosses said they will keep the device in place beyond the end of the pandemic ‘to improve cleanliness and hygiene’ in the shopping.

Thailand has seen sweeping closures of businesses in recent weeks after further outbreaks of Covid-19 infections.

The country recorded 2,636 new Covid-19 cases today (May 20) and 25 deaths, taking the total number of infections recording since the pandemic began to 119,585 with 703 dead.
