This is the mesmerising sight of a man at a chemical plant in Kyrgyzstan handling a pool of liquid mercury.

In this video, filmed on April 13, Lana Sator records Saliev Tolubai Zhanivalievich at a mercury plant in Khaydarkan, as he handles liquid mercury, sometimes called quicksilver, without it causing any harm to him.

The filmer commented: "The other day, I was lucky enough to visit this plant and got to play with mercury."

She added: "But how is this possible? After all, mercury is damn dangerous and toxic.

"Well, I was told that the danger is the accumulation of mercury in the body, which occurs with prolonged inhalation of its vapours, as well as with absorption through the skin.

"The only catch is that mercury begins to evaporate at +18°C.

"In this plant, the mercury is very chilled, so it is safe to hold it in hands for a short time.

"The temperature inside the room is about +5°C, so I was able to touch it without any harm."
