A lightning strike hit a street lamp in St Petersburg, Russia, sending a blazing shower of sparks raining down on pedestrians.

CCTV footage shows the incident, which took place on May 19 over the intersection between Veterans Avenue and Soldier Korzun Street.

The sparks were caused by the lightning hitting a metal structure on the roof of a nearby building, and no injuries were reported.
