An Indian transport authority has turned a bus into an intensive care unit on wheels to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The ICU created by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has six beds and all the necessary medical equipment including oxygen cylinders and ventilators.

Authorities say the vehicle will offer real benefit to the residents of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has turned a bus into an ICU on Wheels. The ICU has multiple beds with proper arrangement of oxygen cylinders, ventilators, etc. This ICU on Wheels will be really beneficial for the residents of Bangalore amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

The bus will act as a step-down ICU to save patients in the golden hour. Each bus will accommodate six patients. Each bus will have four ventilators, ECG, and other equipment that are required during an emergency. All six beds will have an oxygen supply with separate cylinders. Two auxiliary oxygen cylinders and a concentrator will provide backup. A small electricity generator will also be placed on the bus.

India reported 259000 new Covid cases today, taking its tally to 26 million. The death count rose to 2,91,331 after 4,209 more patients died in the last 24 hours.
