An elephant approached an onlooker's vehicle in Sri Lanka's North Western Province on May 22. The incident took place in Saliyawewa, located in the Puttalam District.

A video features a couple of onlookers driving their vehicle across a pathway between sesame fields against the backdrop of a night sky. Upon driving further, they notice an elephant in one of the fields and immediately turn their headlights off. Following this, they shine their flashlights on the jumbo, catching its attention. The elephant then approaches the vehicle, ensuing panic among the onlookers.

The jumbo approached the vehicle but retreated as soon as it started reversing. Following this, the elephant trumpeted and walked away. Later, it roamed around the fields while the onlookers drove away. Moreover, the elephants in the region are known for straying onto the farms and destroying the crops.
