Irate Moray eel Invades Fisherman's Crab Trap in Key West, Florida

Buy video

We were fishing for Blue Crabs off of our seawall at our family home in Key West Florida. When we pulled up our crab trap, instead of the crabs we were expecting, we found an irate Green Moray eel and one fish. Moray eels are predatory carnivores. They hunt and eat a variety of foods including fish, octopus, and crabs. There may have been crabs in the trap already and this Moray eel decided they would make an easy meal but couldn't find his way out after dinner. Why the fish got in is anyone's guess. It may have tried to outswim the eel and sought a safe space to escape and they both ended up getting trapped. All the sea creatures were released unharmed back into the ocean.
