Roiling lightning storm over volcano terrifies local residents in Philippines
Residents were terrified after a fierce lightning storm appeared on top of an active volcano in the Philippines.
Footage shows residents outside their houses watching the weather phenomenon from the foot of Mount Taal in Laguna province on May 25.
Onlooker Monkz Cruz said the swirling dark cloud on the volcano’s peak added to their fears as it looked like a bad omen.
He said: ‘We were all scared. Some of us think that there was also smoke where the lightning hits. The volcano just erupted so this can be a bad omen for all of us.’
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated that there had been no eruption this month nor an earthquake from Taal. The lightning was caused by a thunderstorm.
