Police officers threw a carload of bananas to hundreds of starved wild monkeys in central India on Sunday (May 23)

The animals are normally fed daily at Yadadri temple in Telangana state but the religious site has been closed recently due to COVID-19.

Police said they decided to help after noticing the suffering of the monkeys while out on patrol.

Hundreds of monkeys were fed by devotees of Yadadri temple in Yadgirigutta town in Telangana. After closure of the temple because of Corona, monkeys started starving. The police who were patrolling the streets saw the suffering of the monkeys and decided to help them. Inspector Janaki Reddy and other personnel brought bananas in a police vehicle and fed them to the monkeys.

Hundreds of monkeys gathered near the policemen to receive their favourite fruit and satiate their hunger. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bahgwat has appreciated the gesture of the local police team.
