A herd of elephants has roamed 300 miles across China and is headed toward the city of Kunming
A herd of Asian elephants have roamed 300 miles across China and are now heading towards a city.
The video, filmed in Eshan Yi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province on May 27, shows 15 elephants walking along a road in town at night.
Nearby people were evacuated and drones were used to monitor the elephants.
According to reports, the Asian elephants originally lived in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. They left Eshan Yi Autonomous County on May 28.
On June 2, the elephants reached the outskirts of Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province. Traffic was put under the control outside a village near the Yuxi city, where the elephants were expected to pass.
The herd escaped a nature reserve in Xishuangbanna last year.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
