Environmental enthusiasts from across the districts arrived to save thousands of trees from getting chopped in central India's Madhya Pradesh on May 28. The incident took place in Buxwaha in Chhatarpur district.

A video features several locals appearing in the region to begin their initiative of preserving the trees. Following this, they hug the tree trunks to avoid the officials from cutting them and endanger the environment and add to its crisis. The group continues to protest in the area as a part of their environmental movement.

A Birla-owned company auctioned a land in Buxwaha for the purpose of diamond mining with an amount of Rs. 65,000 crore (USD 8,97,86,84,000), under which more than 2,19,000 trees got endangered as the authorities issued an order to chop them off. Following this, environmental enthusiasts from several regions, including the ones from Khaderi village in Batiyagarh Tehsil of Damoh district, arrived on the spot. Moreover, they took inspiration from the Chipko Movement 1973 and hugged the trees to avoid them from getting cut in the land.
