As May 31st marks the eighth anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, the police prevented demonstrators from passing through the event.

The protests trace back to 2013 in Gezi Park.

Today is the 8th anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, which started in 2013 in Gezi Park and spread all over the country. The police wanted to prevent the citizens who wanted to make a press statement in Taksim. The family of 14-year-old Berkin Elvan, who lost his life in the Gezi Park protests, also supported the action, which was supported by lawmakers. "This is just the beginning, continue the struggle", "Everywhere is Taksim, everywhere is resistance" slogans were chanted.

Berkin Elvan's mother Gülsüm Elvan said:

But most importantly, they are afraid of my 14-year-old child (Berkin Elvan). This is the fear of Berkin Elvan. Ey Tayyip Erdogan." "Whatever you do, Berkin's fear will always be on you. My hands will always be on your side."

Gamze Elvan, the elder sister of Berkin Elvan, said:
[1:08-1:50] "We are fighting so that the trees do not cut down, the streams do not dry out, the people who earn their bread do not die, so that nobody is discriminated against, while almost half of this country lives on the border of hunger, 1 percent of the country is not even richer. We are struggling." We are the name of the resistance, they are the name of the attack. While this government is grappling with filth due to its dark relations, we will be remembered in the pages of history as a pure people's movement. Gezi is this people's hope for equality, justice and freedom. Those who experienced the Gezi Park protests once cannot forget it. Gezi cannot be forgotten We want immediate democracy."

The police prevented the demonstrators from passing to the place where the protest would take place. Deputy Ahmet Şık said to the police:
[1:53-2:16] "Do not be a party to this crime. You have surrendered to a mafia order (the AKP government)".
