Thousands of buildings got endangered after a landslide caused massive destruction in northeastern India's Sikkim on June 1. The incident took place in Gangtok, located in the East Sikkim district.

Visuals feature the layout of the region. Several buildings remain situated on the hilltop while cracks appear on the roads. As the landslide strikes the area, rocks and debris begin rolling down the elevated planes. Several sections of the different streets appear damaged, with a portion of the land subsided.

A landslide on the road stretch at Sisa Golai, National Highway-10, triggered the road formation to break apart on May 30. However, no commuters were present on the route since the road was already diverted. Therefore, no loss of life was reported, but the public utilities like roads, power cables, and water lines suffered damages.

The concerned officials, including District Disaster Management Authority, Shri Ragul K, visited the spot to take stock of the situation. They directed the laborers to re-construct the road as soon as possible and provided them with all the required help and precautions.

Moreover, since thousands of buildings are built on the elevated planes in the region, the landslide made them vulnerable to collapse, endangering the capital.
