Conservation officials in Agam Regency, Indonesia, released a protected crested hawk-eagle back into the wild.

The bird was found in the field of resident and was handed to officials at Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA).

The crested hawk-eagle was then treated for a day before being declared healthy and released back into the wild.

Footage from June 2 shows the moment the juvenile bird of prey was set free.

Ade Putra, Head of BKSDA, said: "The results of our observations, this bird is a female juvenile or under two years old and in good health and deserves to be released again.

"The population of this bird in West Sumatra can be found in areas along the west coast of Sumatra, with the current population observed in 2019 of no more than a thousand individuals."

A brontok eagle, an animal that is protected by law, Wednesday afternoon (02/06/2021) was released into its habitat by Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Agam Resort, in the Maninjau nature reserve, Agam district, West Sumatra. Previously, the eagle was handed over by a resident, who got the eagle in his field a few days ago.

The bird, which is estimated to be less than two years old, is female and immature. After being observed and treated for one day, this bird was declared healthy and could be released back into the wild.

This bird, which is protected by law, is brought to the Maninjau nature reserve to be released into its habitat.

According to Ade Putra, Head of Resort BKSDA Agam, this bird is a predator for small animals to maintain the balance of the natural ecosystem. Usually birds that have a wingspan of more than one meter, live in mountainous areas and close to the sea.

When released, this bird does not immediately fly into the air, but perch on the trees in this nature reserve area. It is hoped that the release of this eagle can maintain its population, which is now less than a thousand individuals.

"Today we released a Brontok Eagle (Nisaitus Ciratus) which is a bird of submission from the residents of North Manggopoh Lubuk Basung who was handed over to BKSDA before this bird was found by Mr. Buyung at his garden location, brought home and reported to us by BKSDA. The results of our observations, this bird is a female juvenile or under two years old and in good health and deserves to be released again. We released it at the Maninjau Nature Reserve, Agam Regency.
