A pair of heroes saved a stray kitten stuck in a dirty canal using a piece of cardboard attached to a rope.

Two men reached down the waterway so the kitten could hop into their makeshift rescue device in Kampung Padang Jawa, Malaysia on March 24.

Onlooker Ady Soleh said he was on his way home when he saw the two men trying to help the cat so he offered his box that was used to carry food.

Soleh said: "I saw them trying to reach the cat so I offered the box. They put strings on it so they could let it down the canal and the cat was saved."

Soleh adopted the cat which now lives in his house with his family.
