Democratic Alliance shadow minister of health, Siviwe Gwarube, has laid criminal charges against South African health minister Zweli Mkhize. This comes after recent allegations that the company Digital Vibes, which is owned by an associate of the ministers, was allegedly awarded a contract irregularly for an amount in excess of R150 million.

Tahera Mather, a former partner of Mkhize, is a director of Digital Vibes. Charges against Mkhize were laid under South Africa’s Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).

There have been calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to dismiss Mkhize as health minister.
