Fire crews rescue puppy after it got its head stuck in a garden in Lancaster, Pennsylvania
The fire department were called after a resident got into a 'ruff' patch - a puppy got its head stuck in a garden chair. The pup, that was only a few weeks old, was playing in the yard with its brothers and sisters when it stuck its head into an overturned chair in Lancaster Township, Pennsylvania, USA. His family tried to squeeze out his head but didn't have the proper tools to hand to free him so called 911 for assistance. Glenn Usdin is the Assistant Fire Chief for the Lancaster Township Fire Department and attended the scene at 5pm on June 2.
He said: "They did say he was the naughty one of the litter. We often assist with animals in danger, from baby ducklings stuck in storm drains, or pets locked in cars and even the occasional cat stuck in a tree. As long as there is no other call for service at the same time, we always assist the animals in distress, whether wildlife or domesticated pets.
"When the dispatcher gave us the information, we immediately knew we had to rush to the scene in case the dog was having difficulty breathing. We treat our residents pets as carefully as if they are human and rushed to the scene to assist him. We decided that using the cutting tool from our rescue truck would release his head in the quickest fashion with the least amount of risk to him."
