After 32 years of candlelit remembrance, this year's ban on festivities regarding the anniversary of Tiananmen Square was enforced but hundreds showed up to honor the victims of the massacre regardless on June 4 in Hong Kong.

Despite a heavy police deployment said according to various leaks from the police to number between 3000 and 7000, Hongkongers clad in black and carrying all kinds of makeshift candles or smartphone torches showed up at Victoria Park.

Around 8 p.m., the police deployed their yellow banner warning of illegal acts being carried out and dispersed the crowds. Some dozen teenagers chanted slogans wishing death to "black police" or "Liberate Hong Kong", a slogan accused of promoting separatism by the Hong Kong Government.

Police then carried out another dispersal operation during which some rubbish could be seen strewn across the street by the protesters.
