London's Chinese community, Umbrella Movement's supporters, and Uyghur Solidarity Campaign's members held a rally at the Chinese Embassy in London on June 4, to commemorate the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Speakers included exiled Hong Kong politician and activist Nathan Law and a student leader from the 1989 pro-democracy Tiananmen Square protests.

For the second year in a row, Hong Kong and Macau have banned the annual vigil in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This move is seen as the latest attempt by the Chinese government to control and repress freedom of expression in semi-autonomous territories.

Yesterday (June 4) the police arrested the organisers of unauthorised demonstrations vigils held in Hong Kong, in defiance of restrictions.
