Officials in Andhra Pradesh, southern India, seized tobacco goods worth over $13,000USD from a shop.

Footage from June 5 shows police entering the shop in Kanchikacherla where dozens of boxes containing chewable tobacco were found.

The goods were found out to be worth $13,671.

In 2013 the state's government imposed a ban on chewable tobacco products.

Despite the ban on import, manufacture, transportation, and sale of Smokeless Tobacco (SLT) or chewable tobacco to save the society from health hazards, they were being sold discreetly in southern India's Andhra Pradesh on June 5. The incident took place in the Kanchikacherla area of Krishna district.

Visuals feature the cops entering the shop to look over and inspect the entire premise of the shop to recover the banned tobacco items. Following this, they open the lock of the warehouse and conduct their examination. After a few moments, they retrieve sacks and boxes full of tobacco items and seize them from the store.

The state government imposed a complete ban on chewable tobacco products on January 9, 2013, intending to save society, but somehow locals continued to have access to these items. Following these instances, a team of police officials raided a general store that belonged to a man named Shekhar and seized tobacco-related goods worth Rs. 10 lakh (USD 13,671).

Earlier, Shekhar was imprisoned under the Preventive Detention Act, but still, he did not learn anything from that case and continued his illicit business afterward as he was inclined towards earning quick cash.
