Watch as this adorable baby tamandua takes its first steps at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington.

Tamanduas are a type of anteater indigenous to South and Central America with tongues that can grow up to 16 inches long.

In the videos, the pup, named Liana, can be seen crawling on its mother, Terra, and sticking out her giant tongue. Zookeepers carefully monitored Terra throughout her pregnancy to ensure baby Liana’s safe delivery. In order to keep Terra still, her handlers fed her whip cream from a tray while performing ultrasound tests.

Born on April 29, Liana initially struggled with a respiratory illness that saw her lose weight after her birth.

Despite this, veterinarians were confident that she would pull through and in the past few weeks, Liana has doubled her body weight.

Since she’s still nursing, Liana won’t make her public debut any time soon as her handlers want her healthy and confident before she's exposed to guests. Currently, Liana weighs just 1.8 pounds and is receiving supplemental feedings when she’s not nursing from her mother.
