8 arrested for smuggling low-quality diamonds in capsules in central India
A gang accused of selling fake and low-quality diamonds have been arrested following a robbery in central India's Madhya Pradesh on June 6. The incident took place in Betul.
Visuals feature a huge consignment of seized diamonds ingeniously concealed within red and black capsules. Along with these, two country-made pistols, two cartridges, and some cash also get recovered while the miscreants are apprehended based on several charges imposed on them and brought to the police station through a car. In the meantime, an official addresses the public and discloses the matter.
On May 31, a merchant named Prince Soni of Chhindwara reached Betul to acquire diamonds from the goons and bought five diamonds worth Rs. 2.5 lakh (USD 3,431) from them. After the purchase, the trader expressed his desire to obtain more diamonds, following which the miscreants arrived with the low-quality diamonds, which the trader refused to buy after claiming that it was fake.
When Prince denied buying the items, the accused got furious and quarreled with him. In this dispute, the miscreants took away the five diamonds and robbed Rs. 2.5 lakh (USD 3,431) from him at gunpoint and fled the scene. The businessman immediately went over to the Betul Ganj Police Station and registered a complaint against the robbers.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the guidance of the Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Nitesh Patel, to investigate the matter from the core.
Upon further investigation, Karan Jharkhade was arrested, and during interrogation, he revealed that his accomplices were Pintu Nagle, Hrithik Chandrahas, Shubham Gaikwad, Pankaj Karve, Rohit Markam, and two minors. Moreover, it was also unveiled that they used to buy low-quality diamonds from Nagpur and sell them around by stating they were of high-grade quality. They also planned to sell diamonds worth Rs. 55 lakh (USD 75,510) at Rs. 2.5 crore (USD 3,43,229) to the traders.
Furthermore, all the accused were arrested on robbery charges and five diamonds, along with 250 fake diamonds, two pistols, two live cartridges, and Rs. 15,000 (USD 205) were recovered and seized from their possession.
