This is the terrifying moment a tornado formed over Weld county, Colorado on Monday afternoon (June 7).

The whirlwind was first spotted near the town of Firestone before moving northeast towards Platteville.

Officials said the tornado was earlier reported as a landspout before developing into a tornado. No injuries were reported but at least two animals were killed and a number of buildings damaged.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said the tornado brought gusts of up to 99 miles per hour.

They added: ‘The Survey team found EF-1 damage with the tornado that occurred on June 7th. The path length was 7 miles with a width of 50 yards in spots. The tornado started 2 miles northeast of Firestone and ended 3 miles northwest of Platteville.’

A tornado is a powerful rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of up to 300 mph.
