South Africa's left wing Economic Freedom Fighters party has come to the aid of a white man from Tokai, Arthur Mckey, after his fruit trees were poisoned by the community for feeding homeless people. Members of the party gathered outside Mckey's home before marching to the local council offices to hand over a memorandum of demands.

The EFF are demanding that the community stops it racism and stop victimising Mckey. Mckey has been involved in several projects in various communities to plant fruit trees to help feed homeless people.

Mckey has alleged that members of the community have poisoned his trees and even the fruit on the ground in an effort to discourage people from picking fruit in the street outside his home. He has lived in the area for 46 years and claims the residents are more racist than the ones in Cape Town's mostly Afrikaans northern suburbs. Brackenfell, where EFF supporters were brutally attacked by white residents last year is in the northern suburbs of Cape Town.

The EFF handed over a memorandum to a representative of the City of Cape Town and said they expect a response within seven days or they would return.
