Food delivery riders queued up outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Jakarta on Wednesday (June 9) despite coronavirus fears after the fast-food chain's new meal celebrating K-pop band BTS was launched.

Several McDonald's outlets in hard-hit Indonesia were forced to temporarily close due to the crowds. Indonesia has reportedly been the worst-hit country in southeast Asia with nearly 1.9 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 50,000 deaths since the pandemic began.

According to the Jakarta Post, the meal named after the pop group contains a set of chicken nuggets, fries and a drink and was first made available in Indonesia on Wednesday. It has been on offer in dozens of countries since May.

The McDonald's outlet opened a special menu called "BTS Meal" on Wednesday, 9 June 2021. This menu is a McDonald's collaboration with the South Korean boy band BTS.

Although McDonald's only serves BTS Meal via online orders and not on the spot, crowds and queues are unavoidable. Hundreds of online motorcycle taxis swarmed McDonald's outlets.

Several McDonald's outlets in Jakarta got temporary closed due to these crowds.
