A fishing cat was rescued after becoming trapped in a large cement pot in Sri Lanka's North Central Province on June 10.

The cat, which is listed as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, is seen growling while at the base of the pot.

Officials dangled a stick before capturing the fishing cat in a bag.

A fishing cat unable to come out of a cemented vessel got rescued in Sri Lanka's North Central Province on June 10. The incident took place in the Ganewalpola region.

A video features the cat growling inside the cemented vessel. The wildlife officials come to its rescue and use a pole to pull the animal out. The fishing cat clings onto the stick while an official lifts it, following which another official puts the animal in a bag. Meanwhile, the fishing cat retaliates its capture.

The fishing cats are an endangered species, listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Moreover, they are threatened by the destruction of wetlands, and their population has significantly decreased over the last decade.
