A man has died after his vehicle was swept away during a flash flood in northern Greece.

First responders in Thessaloniki tried to revive the man after the extreme weather on Saturday afternoon.

Eyewitness Adrian Kuiku explained on camera (3mins 12secs): "The torrent was rushing down with force. I stopped to reverse my car, then I witnessed the other vehicle in front of me entering into the stream. I honked to tell him to stop. When I saw that he stopped his vehicle, I turned mine to leave. When I looked back for him, I saw the rushing waters had overturned his car towards the cliff and into the torrent."

The operation to recover the body and the vehicle involved 13 firefighters. Video shows a torrent of water and first responders at the scene.

Another local man who gave only his surname, Mpampis, said:
"I have never seen such extreme weather for the more than 15 years that I live here. Lots of heavy rain, actually more hail than rain, you can see what is happening here."

The unfortunate driver tried to pass a place where the water was rushing. However, the force of the water was such that it eventually drifted into a stream. The operation to recover the body and the vehicle involved 13 firefighters.
