South Africa’s opposition party criticised for employing a mayor with a “fake MBA”

Cameron Dugmore, the leader of the ANC opposition caucus in the Western Cape legislature criticised the Democratic Alliance for protecting its Saldanha Bay mayor after him not providing proof of his MBA which appears on his official biography.

Koen claims he registered for an MBA with the University of Hull in 1999 and submitted his dissertation in 2002. He recently released a four minute video refuting claims that he falsified his qualifications. Despite opposition parties requesting him to provide a copy of his degree he has not done so.

Dugmore and Xolani Sotashe ( leader of the ANC opposition in the Cape Town City Council), were at Cape Town police station to lay charges of fraud against JP Smith after it emerged that he had allegedly on two occasions claimed he had an honours degree in English from the University of Stellenbosch. Smith only holds a bachelor’s degree in English and never completed his honours degree.

The Democratic Alliance has recently been rocked by allegedly false qualifications claims by Bonginkosi Madikizela, Xanthea Limberg and Natasha Mazzone. Party leader John Steenhuisen was outed on social media a few years ago for only being in possession of a matric certificate despite the party’s claims that it only appoints individuals who are “fit for purpose”.
