Staff of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape protested outside the party’s offices to protest against non-payment of salaries, staff medical aid and pension fund contributions. Staff nationwide protested at provincial offices as well as at the the party’s headquarters at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.

Vusi Malala, the chairperson of the staff representative body, says the frustration the staff faces with late and non-payment of salaries started in 2018. He said party leadership blamed the party’s strained finances was due to reduced to donor contributions since the start of the Covid 19 economic downturn in the country. He refuted these claims saying the issue goes back to 2018 and even 2013.
