Indigenous and other communities marched from Bo Kaap through the Cape Town CBD to protest against American e-commerce giants plans to build it’s new African headquarters on sacred indigenous land. They also protested against and demand the removal of colonial statues within the city.

They first stopped at the statue of General Jan Smuts, the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. They then proceed to the statue of Jan Van Riebeeck who arrived in South Africa in 1652 as a representative of the Dutch East India Company.

Below the statue of Jan Van Riebeeck the crowd was addressed by Dr Allan Boesak, a well known cleric and ant-apartheid activist since the 1970’s. Boesak called for the halting of Amazon’s plans to build it’s offices of sacred land and called for the removal of all colonial statues in the city.
