In a daredevil sea air coordinated operation amid inclement weather, Indian Coast Guard ship and helicopter undertook successful rescue of all 16 crew todate 17 Jun 21 from sinking MV Mangalam near Revdanda port in Raigarh district of Maharashtra.
Early morning on 17 Jun 21, MRCC Mumbai received a telephonic information from Second officer of Indian flagged MV Mangalam intimating that the vessel was partially sinking with 16 crew onboard in around 3 Kms near Revdanda Jetty (Raigarh District), wherein the master was planning to abandon the vessel. The Master intimated that crew were in panic due water ingress. MRCC team pacified the master and crew while requesting them to remain onboard as Coast Guard ship was being deployed.
Indian Coast Guard Ship Subhadra Kumari Chauhan sailed out from Dighi harbour and proceeded towards distressed vessel for rendering assistance. Meanwhile, two ICG helicopters were also launched from ICG Air station Daman for evacuation of crew from MV Mangalam.
ICGS Subhadra Kumari Chauhan arrived in the vicinity of distressed vessel at about 1015 hrs and post assessment of situation lowered her boats for rescue of crew amid challenging weather situation. Moreover, CG helicopters also arrived to the location and commenced winching of crew against the vagaries of weather. Through sustained operations, the ICG Search and Rescue Units (SRUs) successfully rescued 16 crew from distressed vessel. The rescued crew were taken to Revdanda and administered first aid
