A deadly cobra hiding inside a motorbike lunged out at an official who was attempting to pry the snake out.

A resident in Jajpur, eastern India, called wildlife officials after finding the cobra slithering around inside their bike.

Pramod Kumar Sahu and his assistant Chitta Ranjan Panda arrived at the scene and managed to get the cobra to leave the bike.

At one point, the snake lunges towards Sahu before the official managed to capture it.

Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline said: "The man was very fortunate to spot the cobra before starting his bike. Or he could have landed in serious trouble."

A resident of Jajpur district in eastern India went to start his motorcycle on June 13 to get to work. As he put the key in ignition he saw a yellowish snake tail hanging out from below the handle. He jumped off the bike and called Snake Helpline for help.

A two member team from Snake Helpline comprising Pramod Kumar Sahu and his assistant Chitta Ranjan Panda rushed to the spot.

The snake had disappeared into the area between the headlamp and the visor. Chitta opened the visor with a screwdriver and Pramod tried to tease the snake out of its hiding place.

Feeling threatened, the three-and-a-half-foot long cobra lunged at him angrily, but Pramod was prepared for that. He carefully took the cobra out of the bike and put it in a bag with the help of a snake hook. He later released the snake in a natural habitat far away from the village.
