Man throws cockroaches into hotpots to scam restaurants in China
A man threw cockroaches into hotpots to scam two restaurants in southern China.
The CCTV video, filmed in the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province on May 17, shows a man deliberately spilling the vegetables out of the pot and then opening his hand to put the insects into the pot.
The man was then reported to ask for 1,000 yuan (£112.28) compensation from the chain hotpot restaurant Haidilao branch at Tian'an Yungu in Longgang District.
According to reports, the same incident happened again in another haidilao branch at Longhua Xinghe ICO on the same day. The same man found a cockroach in the hotpot again and asked for 800 yuan (£89.83) compensation.
Since the hotpot employee thought there were no food safety lapses, they called the police.
The man named Cai was placed in police administrative detention for extortion.
He later admitted to placing cockroaches into the pots, according to reports.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
