A herd of nearly 100 elephants strayed off their protected corridor to look for food in Sri Lanka's Southern Province on June 17.

In Sri Lanka, forest 'corridors' sometimes connect areas that elephants wish to go, to minimise conflict with humans. But these can be ignored by the animals, particularly if they are trying to find food.

The incident took place in Elagamuwa.

Video shows the huge herd of elephants moving through the forest. While some of them munch leaves, others go towards a stream to quench their thirst. The herd moves as a group and occasionally nuzzles one another.

The herd strayed out of the Kalawewa National Park region to look for food elsewhere, after the Kalawewa reservoir overflowed in the monsoon.
