A video has emerged from the US of a pet tarantula trying to bite the hand of its owner.

In the footage, captured in her home in Los Angeles, exotic pet-owner Kayonna Cole bravely holds her hand up to the camera so the viewer can see the large spider’s biting action.

“Female Rose Hair (Grammostola Porteri) tarantula showing aggression or possibly "testing" with her fangs her bites were not painful, the after effects from the venom were more painful with the symptoms being slight redness of the skin surrounding the bites, soreness and itching,” Kayonna later wrote online.

“This species of tarantula has low toxicity venom similar to that of a bee sting,” she added.
