Despite the ban on import, manufacture, transportation, and sale of smokeless tobacco (SLT) or chewable tobacco to save the society from health hazards, they were being sold discreetly with cannabis in southern India's Andhra Pradesh on June 20. The incident took place at the Pondugula inter-state check post in Dachepalle in the Guntur district.

Visuals feature several concealed sacks full of illicit tobacco-related items seized from a lorry by the cops in broad daylight. They further recover marijuana ingeniously hidden in the truck and confiscate it along with the vehicle for further investigation. In the meantime, they keep a check on all the illegal products as the sale of these items have been increasing day by day.

The state government imposed a complete ban on chewable tobacco products on January 9, 2013, intending to save society, but somehow locals continued to have access to these items. Following these instances, the cops stopped a truck moving from Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh to check it during their regular inspection at the Pondugula inter-state and recovered 75 sacks of tobacco-related items and a kilogram (2.2 lbs) of cannabis worth Rs. 28,12,500 (USD 37,914) from it.

A case has been registered against four miscreants, identified as Venkat Nayak, Venkatrao, Chari, and Venkateshwar, for illegally transporting the items from one state to the other.
