This is the moment a hungry thief caused £4,000 damage by smashing a sweet shop window to steal hundreds of pounds worth - of NERDS. The sweet-toothed criminal was captured on CCTV picking up a large rock and hurling it repeatedly at the window of American Candy Bristol. Owners Megan Stiby and Joshua Elias said he didn't go near the till for cash - but just took £200 worth of candy instead.

“It was just sweets he took - he didn’t even go near the till,” Megan, 20, said. He took all our selection of nerds, a few tango sweets, some Hershey bars and a box of ice lollies that he needs to freeze at home. He just goes in, picks out what he wants, puts them in his IKEA bag and walks out.”

The couple ran their American Candy business online for two years, before finally deciding to open a store in early May. Their boarded-up window was brightened up by local artist, and has now been replaced and restored.
